Discussion of Energy Policy and Strategy

A meeting with Georgian energy sector specialists was held at WEG’s office on 8 May. Energy policy, energy strategy and planning topics were discussed in relation to Georgia’s need to develop own energy strategy. WEG’s researchers presented preliminary results of energy strategy survey based on energy strategies and energy policy documents of 19 countries. Using an example of MARKAL model, the methods of strategic planning of Georgian energy sector were discussed as well.    

The reesentatives of Georgian Energy Academy, Georgian Technical University, Energy Efficiency Center, Association of Oil Companies, Association of Energy Resources’ Efficient Use, state and private energy companies were actively involved in the discussion.

After a dynamic debate the participants agreed on the importance of developing the Georgian energy strategy to international standards, and taking into account the world experience in this field based on the conducted research. Majority of participants expressed their desire to continue similar discussions and to find effective ways of collaboration with the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources on this issue.
