POLICY RECOMMENDATIONS FOR RENEWABLE ENERGY AND ENERGY EFFICIENCY DEVELOPMENT IN GEORGIA

On March 19, 2008, the Workshop on “Renewable Energy Potential in Georgia and Policy Options for Its Utilization” was held at the Tbilisi Marriott hotel. The workshop was conducted by foundation World Experience for Georgia (WEG) together with Winrock International under USAID’s Rural Energy Program.

This was the third and final official meeting of energy experts summarizing studies conducted by WEG under the Rural Energy Program on energy efficiency and renewable energy development potential in Georgia.

More than 80 people representing the Ministry of Energy of Georgia, the Georgian National Energy Regulatory Commission, public and private international organizations, academic institutions, and students attended this event.

Experts representing renewable energy and energy efficiency sectors from the Government of Georgia, donor organizations and potential investors have discussed the conclusions of the studies and the policy recommendations for energy efficiency and renewable energy development in Georgia.
Of particular interest is that these workshops, conducted with USAID support, ensure active participation of all parties engaged in the renewable energy and energy efficiency sectors, which creates favorable conditions for the development of renewable energy and energy efficiency legislation in Georgia.
